This is a 2 panel piece--which is to say that there are two separate and unattached canvases which are meant to hang side by side. The paintings are done in a gestural manner and I have not varnished the surfaces so as to keep the contrast between the dull-matt underpainting and the more glossy glazing. As you can see I have drawn into the wet glaze with pastel. These images are meant be seen together--a model from a fashion company and a Rembrandt portrait. The title comes from a poem by Wendell Berry called "ripening."
