About DeWayne Kendrick
Perry, Georgia native DeWayne Kendrick has rapidly become one of Middle Georgia’s most formidable visual artists since exploding on the local art scene in 2012.
During his Macon debut this past July, Kendrick partnered with Roasted Café, Poetic Peace, Real Talk Hip Hop and B.L.A.C.K. Poets on behalf of a mid-state medical patient in need of a kidney transplant. The result was a successful fundraiser fueled by the sale of several of Kendrick’s original oil and acrylic paintings during a silent auction. That collection featured a combination of portraits, everyday scenes and abstracts that drew high praise and positive criticism from both media outlets and those that purchased them.
Kendrick has a special eye. He uses this natural ability to create vivid images that jump off the canvas with a realism that is driven by his love for and use of bright colors. His works’ magnetism is additionally rooted in his determination to provide art lovers with pieces that spark conversation. “A visual artist should compel onlookers to engage one another about the works before them,” said Kendrick. “My goal is to create pieces that draw the viewer in visually and cause them to be moved emotionally.”
Kendrick continued to showcase his talent at the Historic Douglass Theatre on Halloween night of 2012 during an event he dubbed “The Masquerade”. His effort to provide a fun, family oriented environment encased in a sphere of safety and surrounded by thematic pieces of his creation and choosing, proved successful as well.
Kendrick will elevate during Black History Month 2013. A partnership with the Tubman African American Museum and the Macon based communications outlet Visionary Communications will have his works on display during an event at the Tubman entitled “Memory Lane: An Artistic Journey Through Black Cinema”. This time Kendrick’s interpretation of memorable moments from eight of the world’s most beloved Black cinematic masterpieces will be the focus. All eight pieces will be on display during the entire month of February and will be available to purchase. “Black cinema is a very good topic to be explored, especially during Black History Month. ” Kendrick expressed. “My goal is to capture and convey scenes from these movies that strike an instant cord with the viewer as they provoke pride, inspiration and conversation.”
Kendrick holds an Associate Degree in Art from the Art Institute of Atlanta. He works as a volunteer instructor of art with local municipalities, individuals, groups and organizations in between painting for a living. He is the founder of his professional arts vehicle Kendrick Brown Productions and currently resides in Macon, Georgia.

ok well then let me share a part of the Kendrick Zone with you....
when i was young my most fondest memory was one where my dad took me to dairy Queen and read the comic book silver surfer to me with sound affects...
the pictures opened my eyes and showed me a world of imagination colour and form... later when i was alone a angst teen with no friends and an awkwardness that was so painful it hurt to wake in the morning... i created friends with the talent that was given me... as a young adult i had my very first gallery art showcase 50 oil painting on pre stretched canvas stolen....
this devastated me... and caused me to put down my art and explore my own dark and hidden tendencies... at my lowest point when there was no one and nowhere to turn... i then again began to draw then paint... but this time i painted the things that touched me... my dreams my hopes all of these things i placed in my art...
then boom others began to see what i had seen all along... there eyes focused on the colours and the images i placed on the canvas... and i learned that these images could do what i could not... help those in need... and through that need... it helped heal and cure myself of all the evil i had done before... it washed away the doubt and hurt of that teen and it allowed that young boy to gaze off and wonder again...
i realized that i am both good and evil light and dark... my goal was the balance...to put the focus on the subject in a way that was pleasing to me... while it my be pleasing to others... first it had to pass my minds eye then my hands then out towards the world...
my art is loaded with snap shots of my past and hopes of the future... i love to experiment and bring these experimental flairs within my style...colour is a joy... bright and lively... subject range from religious to occultist...abstracts thoughts with a concrete mind...i push but i also hold back...each piece has many messages and i mingle them so that the lesser message stands out center most...
they are puzzles and drawn from a world that i both loathe and love....
