About Anne-Christine RODA
I refer in my work to an original definition of portrait painting which is entirely subject to the fragile representation of man.
In my paintings the presentation models posed like a neutral background, are reminders to tradition, while my subjects are resolutely excerpts of our time. The choice of subjects is appealing
directly to our daily lives.
These people, ages and various situations, are all individuals. But more than that, these differences appear as facets that dot the representation of a thrilling life of humanity. So much so that
every portrait can become, for a moment, remembering the support.
Because of my training, it is with extreme care that I return over the paint layers the subject's face, or rather expresses the naked intimacy. The traits stand out with precision and realism. The
smooth crevice of a fine line, the texture of a hair strand or moisture of an eye: it is in this loyalty research that is being sketched in all its sensitivity. The facial expression of the subject
chosen deliberately neutral, opens the interpretation of the field.
If the work on the material is applied to the face surface, it extends with equal acuity on the garment. It was he who anchors the representation in our time, by the folds of a wrinkled shirt or
delicate embroidery of a bustier.
This is among other things the development of photography that precipitated the decline of the portrait genre. Now this is from a photograph I work, ultimate proof that my painting, drawing from the
tradition its material, moves away from this desire to raw performance. Postures and life-size formats are more supportive modernity.
