About Anna Grau

Anna Grau was born in Russia, Moskow in 1980, lived between 1981 and 1995 in Sankt­Petersburg and came as a Russian­German to Berlin when she was 15 years old. From 2001 to 2007 she studied at an Berlin Art Academy. She still lives in Berlin and works as a freelance­artist. In her works she is focusing on the Woman and her archetypes. "The woman is laden with symbolic meaning, it is very complex and very contradictory. You can study her for a lifetime ..." "My style I would describe as symbolism. I like the tension between the realistic style of painting on the one hand and the representation of the symbolic on the other." "In my paintings, I focus primarily on emotional backgrounds. When they are right, I'm looking for a "proper form" that reflects the emotions ..."
