About Louis-Nicolas Darbon
The unifying theme running through Louis-Nicolas' life is the divided influences which converge to make his art so unique. Whether it is culture, artistic inspiration, or the place he calls home; none have been straightforward. But where others create dividing lines and borders, Louis-Nicolas creates curves, intersecting these categories and their definitions. Born with a brush in his hand, Louis-Nicolas painted from the age of 2 in his Parisian home. With a French father and a mother with heritage from India, South Africa and the small island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean, cultural diversity is inherit to Louis-Nicolas. Studying in cities across the World has further fuelled Louis-Nicholas' creativity, opening his eyes to new styles, sights and inspirations. But the cities of Paris, New York and his current home of London have made the largest impact on Louis-Nicolas' work. The energetic city life of New York, Paris' tranquillity and London's creativity continue to provide Louis-Nicolas with inspiration at every corner. Similarly diverse is the range of artists and styles which have influenced Louis-Nicolas' work across the decades. Primarily working with oil colours, Matisse and Dali's techniques and styles have long been a source of inspiration. Monet's pointillism and mix of colours, Kandinsky's geometry of lines and curves and Lichtenstein and Warhol's explosive colour and simplicity have also helped craft and guide Louis-Nicolas' own unique style. A long way from those first childhood sketches, Louis-Nicolas now lives and works in West London for a global fashion company. Once again, several worlds merge into one unique experience, as Louis-Nicolas' passions for both the spheres of fashion and art are fed by the diverse, avant-garde community of nearby East London. At Louis-Nicolas' house in Notting Hill the cultures, inspirations and experiences of his colourful life unite, breathing life into unique works on canvas.
