Glen Hawkins

Glen Hawkins was born and raised in Bountiful Utah. After graduation from Woods Cross High School, He worked as a full time illustrator for Image West Advertising. He then received a full tuition fine arts scholarship to Weber State University. Glen has since studied with an eclectic group, including Utah artist Larry Wade, nationally renowned portrait artist Daniel Greene of New York, Denver artist Ron Hicks, Matt Smith of Arizona, and Carolyn Anderson of Montana.
Glen has been a requested artist for several local charities including The Utah Symphony, Red Butte Gardens, The Utah Rape Recovery Center, and Community Nursing Services. He was honored as the CNS "Artist of the Year" for 2003.
Glen Hawkins was named as one of four figurative artists in "Start Your Collection" by Southwest Art magazine. In 2010 he was awarded both first place in "Festival Quick Draw" and first place "Festival Choice" in the Ogden Arts Festival plein air paint out.
His artwork was use as advertising and limited edition prints for the 2011 Ogden Arts Festival. In 2012 he received an Honorable Mention and purchase award for Davis County's permanent collection. His artwork was featured in the book and DVD of the film Sweetwater Rescue Produced by Lee Groberg for PBS. His work has been displayed and purchased for the permanent collection of the LDS Church Museum of History and Art. His award winning art work can be found in hundreds of private and public collections through out the United States and around the world.
Painting Poetry
In literary terms, I can best describe my approach to painting as follows: I do not choose the complex plot of a novel, nor the detail of a police report, rather the consummate theme of a poem. Whether it is a path in the woods, the curve of a woman's back, or light falling on a group of apples, I try to convey the essential truth about my subject with distinct and descriptive brush strokes.
