Women don't come from Venus and dogs do bite here - a critical essay on Claudio Di Carlo's work
Claudio Di Carlo has always laid his glance on forms trespassing the borders.
Being a protean artist he has crossed a plurality of counter-cultural artistic experiences related to the 70s and the 80s.
Grown up in the humus of ethical-political anarchism, he was involved in underground music and experimental theatre.
The artist plans cultural spaces, creates groups of artistic support and multimedia performances, produces rock groups, invents and organizes festivals and happenings and he deals with electronic music.
His centrifugal impulse has undertaken the necessary function of his creativity.
His ever growing feelings for multiple vocations - as if the image of a self that turns into a multitude - significantly disjointed from authoritarian bonds, are also to be regarded as mediators allowing our society to regulate its excitement and repression.
Di Carlo with his resolute entrances into the "others" has crossed thresholds considered shut into a spiral that is as intense as extensive.
In the post-modern world the artist seems to incarnate a nomadic and multi-identity personality extremely rooted between sensory barriers of somatic and experiential languages.
His work is a continuous rearrangement aiming to rut the aesthetic forms of everyday life along with the impressive cultures of popular consumptions.
His wish is leading himself to the concentration and control of a form reaching at last integrity within a specific sensitive experience.
He doesn't merely express what one is like or what one expresses but, being faithful to his own nature, he becomes what one is like.
The pictorial transfiguration of this "conatus vitale", in an atopic past, of no fixed abode, of no concrete forms, seems to have found a specific area of intensity : the feminine figure as the image of desire. Or rather the desire as primary mobilization of individual and collective bios.
Desire as the originary cause for turning consumptions into something spectacular and fashion into superficiality.
Desire represented up to his "reverse", up to the extreme edges of "Trash" and "Crash" in our civilization.
William Burroughs would say : " We are in a zone of electrical sexual currents ".

Claudio lives and works in Rome, Pescara and Hamburg.
Painter, cultural worker, director and producer.
1972-75
Years of nomadism between Ovada's community and European roads ; artistic main reference "Convergenze Gallery", a versatile space directed by Peppino D'Emilio, PESCARA. He exhibits abstract/informale art in several group-exhibitions then he drops painting to dedicate himself to music, theatre and cultural planning. He gets back to painting many years later finding a new direction, figurative/conceptual art.
1977
Founder of punk-rock groups Koma and R.A.F. Rock Army Fraktion.
1983
Performer and organizer with street theatre ensamble "Drammateatro" directed by Claudio Di Scanno.
1984
Planner and director of " Officina club" in PESCARA, one of the first spaces for multimedia-conception in Italy.
1987 - 94
Collaboration with theatrical research group "Florian". During those years he develops a collective experience that gives life to "Gruppo d'intervento artistico", later called " Brigata Abruzzi" with Giulia Basel, GianMarco Montesano, Giovanni Mostarda, Enzo Berardi and with the contribuiton of new French philosophers Baudrillard, Sollers... It's a moment of decision in which he collects all the experiences of former nomadism and turns it into visual-art.
1993
Founder of "Il teatro delle forme". Writes and directs "Spettacolo continuato: Gli incubi del signor Duamell" with Giampiero Mancini as actor and coauthor.
1994
Producer of rap-rock group "Sistema Informativo Massificato" for "Diramazioni" on behalf of Warner Music Italy-Wea.
1998 -2011
Establishes his own studio : "the Ice Badile-studio" in Rome, an open-space shared with artists: Ivan Barlafante, Emilio Leofreddi, Claire Longo, Daniela Papadia and Andrea Orsini to whom we must add several other young artists and musicians joining the studio for apprenticeship.
2004
Creator with the composer Gabriel Maldonado, of " The Hyper Vectorial Sistem " - electronic music project, open and uncontrolled.
He defines John Fante together with Janis Joplin, Rossellini, Modigliani, Piero Ciampi, Jesus and P.J. Harvej, figures belonging to his own poetic imagination by full right.
