As a Geometric Surrealist, I am interested in how perception can be skewed by the reduction of natural forms to their geometric equivalents. This style explores the use of multiple sources of light as an aid in creating spatial depth in abstract compositions. The use of light and shadow draws out the subconscious, or non-rational aspects of the geometric forms. Light reflecting and refracting off of multiple planes guides the viewer’s eye, and gives shape to what might otherwise be a chaotic mass of line and color. Although my paintings are rooted in personal experience, their subjective nature provides room for the viewer to engage with the composition, and ascribe their own meaning.

Abstract XLVI or “Tree of Knowledge” is just that a tree as seen in the dream state, a product of the subconscious. The red dot that is protected by the complement green hues is symbolic to the knowl- edge we all strive to achieve. I use the implied lines to force the eye into the red hue, and to hold the eye I use scintillation to create a slight vibration of the two complement hues.

This painting is a depiction of the beginning of a relationship. At the beginning of a new relationship, people tend to be guarded, reserved, and even cold at times. They may even seem to have locks on their feelings so they can’t get hurt. I used cool colors in the foreground to be symbolic of the coldness and standoffishness of an individual. As the relationship moves forward, the layers are peeled or torn back to reveal more layers - less cool, even warm layers. These warmer layers represent the individual opening up and being less scared to share. These hues are in the yellow/ochre family. As the relationship becomes deeper, there seem to be more locks – big walls of strong red hues that protect the sacred, meaning the heart or soul of the individual. The passion is to peel back the guarded layers to reveal the true self, or soul. In my opinion, this is what we all strive for – to find the true sacred or soul in an individual.

Artist Statement: I am currently working in a style I call Geometric Surrealism. This style explores the use of multiple sources of light as an aid in creating spatial depth in abstract compositions. Light reflecting and refracting off of multiple geometric planes guides the viewer’s eye, and gives shape to what might otherwise be a chaotic mass of line and color. In this process the work I produce is dynamically bold, stimulating and mysterious. The images capture the viewer and entice the eye to explore the composition.
My work is inspired by the tension between certain dualities: the conscious and subconscious, good and evil, light and dark. As an abstract artist, I am philosophically interested in the subjectivity of the mind, and it’s capacity for skewing perspectives of external events or the physical world.
Artist Statement
My Passion is fueled by My Philosophies through the exploration of the paradoxes and cosmic laws consisting of My Truths. My subject matter is influenced by the conscious and subconscious, good and evil, light and dark. I use these words to fuel My Passion for a never-ending process of
Art. As an abstract Artist or (Surrealistic Cubist) I am interested in the State of Mind a skewed description of external events or how I perceive the physical world. Since I base My paintings on My experience of the contemporary life, My paintings are bound to contain a variety of reflections or re- fractions of the physical realm. I will use line, color, shape and form to help Me express My thoughts and portray My surroundings. I also want to provoke a connection with the viewer to get He or She to explore thecanvas. Line, color, shape and form help Me to push and pull the viewer through the composition like a cue ball bouncing from rail to rail. I feel a large format and powerful Hues will entice the viewer to explore the composition and also explore their own thought on what they are viewing. These words chaos and order have lead Me to and ongoing series of processing My thoughts
and My observations to create art through a style of Abstract Expressionism or ( Surrealistic Cub- ism).In this process the work I am producing is dynamically bold, stimulating and mysterious. The images capture the viewer and entice the eye to explore the composition.
