About Melinda Matyas
Melinda Matyas was born in 1976 in Transylvania currently living and working in London. A painter of the hidden she creates expressionistic works using the human psyche as a reference. For her the human body is a concretization or a function of that unknown thing which produces the psyche as well as the body, which in her vision is one and the same thing.
By applying the visual vocabulary and conventions of latent and hidden to subject matter drawn from the human body she makes her subjects forcing ambiguity and provocative perplexity to pervade her imagery. Her figures often disturb tropes of figurative painting often blurring the boundaries between traditional and contemporary modes of representation.
“I love people, the broken, the hidden, the transparent, I’m excited about existence which is the greatest challenge on earth, psyche is part of nature and it’s enigma is limitless.”
