Art Description

42"X36" Gold Plated Process and Hand Stitching on Canvas. The pictorial surface has different layers of metals being the top, gold. Each layer altered the reflective properties on the work to this incredible reflective and captivating surface.

My first inspirations with precious metals derive from my personal heritage that is intimately involved with both pre-Columbian gold and shamanism. Those traditions inspired in me an impetus to create, in the belief that the glitter of gold transmits a magical and fertilizing energy to humanity.

My research in both traditions brought me to a fascination with the dynamism of monochrome metallic surfaces. The findings allow me to codify and translate my work into a new metaphysics of the painted surface and toward a new form of abstraction. This abstraction is embodied in the optically perceived phenomena of the pictorial surface. Ambient light, colors, shapes and movements continuously morph into an ever-changing, ever-captivating imagery. Indeed these works can spark, inspire and give both energy and calmness to the viewer.

Artist Statement

"The moonness of silver creates an electrifying elegance and transient softness. In this embrace, the reflection of silver is both balance and filter, allowing insight into who we are and what we feel. It is through this silver lense that we understand calmness, purity and essence."

About | Eduardo Terranova

My inspirations and visions derive from my personal heritage that is intimately involved with both pre-Columbian gold and shamanism.  This gives me the impetus to create, in the belief that the glitter of metals is more than mere reflections, more than optically perceived phenomena.

Stretching the walls of painting and moving away from the traditional two dimensionality, the 'new constructions' allow me to codify and translate my work into a new metaphysics of the "painted surface" and toward a new form of abstraction. This abstraction is embodied on different processes such as gouging canvas and assuaging it by hand stitching as a concept of repair and, as a constant in nature and our everyday lives or, simply by building plaster on burlap fabric to create endless landscapes.

Light, shadows and an infinity of scintillations emerge to become then, the subject matter of the new relief-like works.  The light sparking from a stitch or repair is then the "healer and light breather on the infinite process of repair. The works evoke then an incredible sense of light, space, movement and time. My key elements in art are plaster, metallic plated paints and needle&thread. My aspiration is to transmit a magical and fertilizing energy to humanity through my works and to follow my passion for artistic possibilities in contemporary art.
