Sahaja Budzilla

Limerick, Co Limerick, Ireland

tribal, grafitti, dance, yab yum, connection, relationship, life Sahaja Budzilla | All Things Being One | triptych

Art | Description

This painting is about connection. Its got lots of life and joy and movement in it with different figues and animals and birds. Its about all life being connected, being one. The painting has a textured surface and is in a much bigger landscape than most of my paintings.

The painting is on three sheets of high quality Bockingford Watercolour paper that is 30  x (3x22) inches/76 cm x 168 cm in total. I leave an approximate two inch boarder around the painting. I would hang this in three seperate frames next to each other or they could all go in one long frame.

peace, purity, outer space, connection, cosmic, love Close 2 the Bone 3

Art | Description

At the start of 2016 I sort of decided to paint a load of Buddhas, of all shapes and sizes .... Im still at it now , and its the beginning of March now...Its like a new years ritual that turned into a big project.. Iv eworked organically, keeping my nose close to the ground...Following my underneath patterns, being true to my roots and aspirations. Honouring my ancestors and my own journey . And to be honest, its not been pretty... this painting is part of a growing family of Buddhas, That have branched out into many groupings and sizes ..
The figures in this series are rooted in seating meditation posture. But at the same time floating in space. The backgrounds are alive with floating words, sounds, truths, cures obscenities ...But the figures are not bothered about any of that. This series is about facing up to yourself , your trauma, Warts and all...And being able to move past that, And be freer... in yourself and the world around you ...

ove, yab yum, goddess, underworld, connection, integration, relationship Chatt Up

Art | Description

This painting is one of a series of seven. I did one a day for a week. It was when me and my partner were organizing our wedding and there was a lot of stuff going on around who we should invite or not. There was a lot of red tape we had to get through as well. This series of paintings was a lot to do with boundaries and working with trauma that comes up for me around boundaries. I almost don't like this set. The paintings feel heavy to me but that might just be subjective. The figures are in relationship and they are dancing. I collaged the figures on. I hope the viewer can relate to the energy and relationship between the figures.

Art | Description

These paintings are part of a series. There is something broken down in these pictures. This whole theme of dissolution almost painted itself. Some of the writing is back to front. I’m really embracing my dyslexia. Its like a magic ritual. The words and numbers just come and its like a tapestry. The paintings are peaceful and strong but at the same time having trauma coming through them. I’m like a mother who loves her ugly children. The mood and the titles of the pictures are referring to my illness chronic fatigue and not fitting in to society and the beauty of being slow and owning oneself in all ones aspects.

There is a stained glass window effect like a diffused light. Its not in your face but the feel of the paintings is steady. The diffused light is spirituality, its more of an odd experience but profound at the same time. The profound and ugly and mundane are all there.

The paintings are on high quality Bockingford Watercolour paper that is 30  x 22 inches/76 cm x 56 cm. I leave an approximate two inch boarder around the painting.

The materials used are Acrylic and Household paint, Ink, Marker and Pastel.

Keywords: psyche, shadow, tribal, graffiti, self-portrait, love, man, acrylic

The weight of the painting when packaged is approximately 7kg.

Sahaja Budzilla

About |Sahaja Budzilla

Sahaja grew up in an Irish family in Manchester. In his teens he found both art and Buddhism and later did a Fine Art Degree and was ordained as a Buddhist and given the name Sahaja.

Sahaja discovered his natural medium in metal sculpture. After college he found himself a studio at Dean Clough in Yorkshire and had a prolific 9 year period of working in metal. But the life of the artist is a precarious one. Eventually Sahaja lost his studio and with it his stable working conditions. This led to a long period of struggle and re-evaluation culminating in Sahaja yet again reinventing himself, this time as a painter using a mix of paint and collage.

Sahaja's name means, "natural, innate, spontaneous, born with..." His art is his practice; exploring and transforming himself. He lives and breathes his art.

Sahaja is currently living in Cork city with his wife. Since he moved he has been exploring abstract and figurative painting, Buddha figures and self portraits, relationships and the tensions and dynamics between male and female, trauma and healing. In his own words 'its all about relationship to oneself, inner and outer worlds and about congruence'.
