About Ricky Lester
Ricky Lester is a 23-year-old artist from Macon, Georgia who is currently a BFA candidate with an emphasis in drawing/painting at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Ricky’s work stems from a plethora of influences in terms of medium and artists both academic and non-traditional; such as, Albrecht Druer, Picasso, Francisco Goya, Sailor Jerry, and Raymond Pettibon. Ricky’s identity as a maker can be defined as well rounded, interdisciplinary, and expressive, resulting from his studies under a Master printmaker, relationship with tattoo artists, and influences from the punk rock culture. “Having grown up in the industrial side of town, my overall identity, along with my work, has been sculpted from the South, working class culture, and folklore. Imagination, creation, and the counter culture, for me have always seemed to be less reluctant in presenting themselves in my life where money and conventional lifestyles did not; therefore, giving me the opportunity for self exploration and manifesting my ideas into true works of art.
