About Lon Brauer
Lon Brauer is a fine-artist and photographer living and working in Granite City, IL, a suburb of St. Louis MO. He received a BFA in painting in 1980 at Washington University in St. Louis and then did his post-graduate work between the years of 2005 and 2007 at Fontbonne University, also in St. Louis, receiving his MFA as a figure painter.
Upon leaving Washington University as a painter, an opportunity to work with a large photography studio presented itself. Brauer worked his way from darkroom, to assisting, to shooting and has pursued studio photography to the present. In 1991 he created Lon Brauer & Company, a photo studio specializing in product photography and photo illustration.
1998 saw a rebirth of painting for Brauer and his main emphasis has shifted back to painting and the pursuit of a fine art career. He currently produces fine-art - figure and landscape - under the roof of Lon Brauer Studios. He has exhibited extensively in both group and solo showings and has garnered numerous awards for his exciting work.
Lon Brauer’s work is formed by experiences in two separate art fields – photography and painting. He uses photography as an integral tool for the creation of his images. Photoshop has become his sketch tool. However, once the painting begins it is all about paint and paint application. There is a goal – an image/narrative – but that goal is secondary to the direction that the painting process follows. He strives to make exciting images with exciting mark making. Sophistication and intelligent narrative - a complete painting.
